Dato’ Ir. (Dr.) Lee Yee Cheong, Chairman of ISTIC Governing Board and Dato’ Dr. Sharifah Maimunah Syed Zin attended the above conference which was held in Beijing from 28-30 October 2014. The Biennial Conference is an important event of the Inter-Academy Partnership Science Education Programme (IAP SEP) which has identified Inquiry – Based Science Education (IBSE) as an effective pedagogy in enhancing science education in schools. Held every two years, the 2014 Biennial Conference was attended by about 100 participants. The opening was officiated by Mrs. Hazami Habib of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia while Dato’ (Ir.) De. Lee Yee Cheong, who is also the Chairman of the IAP SEP Global Council gave a key note address entitled “Inter-Academy Panel (IAP) Science Education Programme (SEP), Where Do We Go From Here?”.  Plenary session speakers comprise mainly members of IAP SEP Global Council as well as experts in the field of IBSE, Technology Education, Assessment and Student Outcomes, Science Outreach and Society. Dato’ Dr. Sharifah Maimunah presented on “Technology Education and the Preparation of Middle Level S&T Human Resources”.  A poster session was also held alongside the Conference. The Conference concluded with a declaration which summarised issues raised and proposed recommendations. Two additional programmes were added at the end of the Conference i.e. visit to the Chinese Science and Technology Museum and a visit to a science class in a primary school attached to Peking University.   Dato’ Dr, Sharifah Maimunah participated in both programmes.
