International Webinar on Climate Change Education: ISTIC Shares Regional Perspectives

On 18th August 2025, the International Webinar on Climate Change Education: Preparing Teachers for a Sustainable Future took place online, bringing together pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and lecturers from Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and beyond. The event was hosted by the Institute of Teacher Education Technical Education Campus (IPG Kampus Pendidikan Teknik) and streamed live via YouTube and Facebook. 

The webinar served as a platform to exchange ideas on how climate change education (CCE) can be effectively integrated into teaching practices, particularly at the early childhood and primary education levels in Southeast Asia. Global, regional, and local experts shared strategies to equip educators with the tools and knowledge needed to address climate challenges in the classroom. Discussions highlighted innovative pedagogies, including Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) and Project-Based Learning (PBL), as well as experiences from diverse educational contexts.

ISTIC was represented by its Director, Sharizad Dahlan, who presented on the state of climate change education in Asia and highlighted practical solutions developed and supported by ISTIC. Her intervention underscored the importance of capacity building and collaboration in strengthening teachersability to deliver effective climate change education. 

Alongside ISTIC, speakers included representatives from the Office for Climate Education (OCE) in Paris, Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF), and other international organizations, providing a wide range of perspectives on the role of climate change education in fostering sustainability.
