On 26 and 27 March, ISTIC\u2019s Director, Mada<\/span>m\u00a0<\/span>Shariz<\/span>ad<\/span>\u00a0Dahlan, was invited t<\/span>o\u00a0<\/span>participa<\/span>te<\/span>\u00a0in the International Workshop entitled\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201cPromoting the Blue Economy and Overcoming its Implementation Challenges\u201d<\/span><\/span>, held in Fli<\/span>c\u00a0<\/span>e<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fl<\/span>ac<\/span>, Mauritius. The event was organized by the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre)<\/span><\/span><\/a>, in collaboration with the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research of the Republic of Mauritius.<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>
This occasion also marked an important milestone for ISTIC, with the signing of a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Mauritius.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The workshop officially opened with the MoU signing ceremony between the M<\/strong><\/span><\/span>inistry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research and the International Science, <\/span>Technology<\/span> and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation <\/span>under the auspices of UNESCO <\/span><\/strong>(ISTIC).<\/strong> <\/span><\/span>This agr<\/span>eement <\/span>rep<\/span>resents<\/span> a significant step toward strengthening collaboration and fostering dialogue on key issues related to the development of the blue economy. The MoU was signed by <\/span><\/span>Madam Tengku Sharizad Binti Tengku Chik, Director, International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the auspices of UNESCO<\/strong> and <\/span><\/span>Mr Bheesam Sharma Cyparsade, Ag. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education Science and Research.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The workshop aimed to highlight the critical role of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in building a strong foundation for sustainable blue economies. Through case studies and practical examples, discussions demonstrated how STI-driven approaches can foster blue economic growth, enhance livelihoods, and promote environmental sustainability, particularly in <\/span>Small Island Developing States.<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

Over the two days, the workshop featured six thematic sessions<\/strong> and brought together a diverse range of participants, including researchers, academics, subject matter experts, government officials, and policymakers, as well as representatives from international organizations, NGOs, and the private sector<\/strong>. Speakers represented various countries from the Global South, including <\/span><\/span>Mauritius, Malaysia, Iraq, India, Myanmar, Kenya, and Egypt.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
