From 9 to 11 October 2025, the International Science, Technology and Innovation Center (ISTIC) and the International Centre for Engineering Education<\/a> (ICEE), both under the auspices of UNESCO, co-hosted the 5th International Conference on Women in Science, Engineering, Economy, Technology, and Innovation (SE\u00b2TI)<\/a> in Beijing, China.\u00a0<\/h5>
This year\u2019s conference, held under the theme \u201cTrailblazer of Tomorrow\u2019s Innovations\u201d<\/span>, brought together leaders, researchers, innovators, and experts<\/span> from across the globe. The event highlighted their achievements, fostered knowledge-sharing, and explored strategies to advance gender equity in SE\u00b2TI fields.\u00a0<\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A Longstanding Collaboration\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

SE\u00b2TI <\/span><\/b>2025 builds on the legacy of four previous forums organized by <\/span>ISTIC and ICEE<\/span><\/b> in <\/span>Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia<\/span><\/b>, which laid the foundation for empowering women in science and technology.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Since 2011<\/span><\/b>, the two institutions have convened biennial programs<\/strong> designed to showcase women\u2019s excellence in shaping the future of science, engineering, economy, technology, and innovation:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

  3. 3rd Biennial International Conference on Women in STI:<\/strong> Innovative Solutions for the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2016\u20132030 (15\u201316 May 2017)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>

    A Rich and Dynamic Program<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

    Over three days, ISTIC curated a diverse programme of <\/span>keynote speeches<\/span><\/b>, p<\/strong><\/span>lenary sessions<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>panel discussions,<\/span><\/b> forums<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>and interactive workshops.<\/span><\/b> Speakers were selected for their outstanding contributions in fields such as <\/span>artificial intelligence, quantum computing, engineering, chemistry, and digital innovation.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    Beyond celebrating achievements, the conference placed strong emphasis on <\/span>practical strategies, <\/span><\/b>mentorship, inclusive leadership, and policy development, to strengthen gender equity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

      Key Highlights<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

      The conference opened with special addresses from global leaders, including a keynote video by former UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova<\/strong>, as well as remarks from Tsinghua University<\/strong> and Mohd Basyaruddin Abdul Rahman<\/strong>, Chair of the ISTIC Governing Board.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

      Plenary sessions led by distinguished speakers reinforced the crucial role of women as drivers of innovation and emphasized the link between gender equity and the UN<\/strong> Sustainable Development Goals.<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

      Participants engaged in thought-provoking exchanges, sharing strategies and insights<\/strong> that connected women\u2019s empowerment to broader technological and economic progress.       The event concluded with a study visit to Tsinghua University<\/a>\u2019s<\/strong> research and innovation laboratories. Delegates left inspired by the collaborative spirit, the actionable knowledge exchanged, and the shared commitment to advancing women as leaders and innovators.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
