The Training Workshop on Technopreneurship for South Countries was successfully held from 5-9 October 2015 at Furama Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is the 12th training programme in Technopreneurship by ISTIC which was supported by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysia and Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO). The training programme was officiated by Hon. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysia.

A total of 26 participants from 17 developing countries, ISESCO member countries comprising Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Cameroon, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Turkey, Vietnam and Malaysia attended the training workshop.

The participants were selected from among researchers from universities and research institutes who have developed inventions or patents to provide them with the necessary knowledge on how to commercialize their research findings and also at directors of commercialization unit of universities and R & D Institutes.

The workshop was designed to train participants on the elements of entrepreneurship in relation to the demand of the knowledge and innovation economy as well as how to write a good business plan. The participants were also be taught a systematic approach on how to create and build successful businesses that are based on and driven by science and technology.

The content of the training workshop was focused on technopreneurship development which included the following topics: 

  • Understand principles and practices of entrepreneurship
  • Appreciate the basics of Identifying business opportunities
  • Distinguish the key elements for venture creation
  • Understand the key drivers of start-ups
  • Appreciate growth strategy, competition and business models
  • Appreciate growth strategy, competition and business models
  • Understand the mechanics of marketing and sales
  • Ability to secure funding for the business
  • How to make impactful presentation of business plan
  • Negotiation for the best deals with financiers/industrialist


Certificate of attendance was given to all participants at the end of the workshop.
