Hari UNESCO Malaysia 2016: “Inclusiveness”

ISTIC participated in the one-day Hari UNESCO Malaysia 2016 (Malaysia UNESCO Day) on 28 May 2016 at Taman Wetland, Putrajaya with the theme “Inclusiveness”, was organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in collaboration with Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (NatCom). The annual event has become a day to celebrate the leading role of Malaysia in implementing UNESCO’s global mandate and in order to showcase UNESCO in Malaysia. The event attracted a large audience consisting of high level Government officials, Malaysian institutions, ambassadors, UN agencies and the public.

The event was graced by the presence of several ministers: Minister of Education, Honorable Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Minister of Higher Education, Honorable Dato’ Seri Haji Idris Jusoh, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Honorable Dato’ Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Minister of Family, Women and Community Development, Honorable Datuk Seri Rohani Abd. Karim, Director of UNESCO Office in Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Shahbaz Khan and the Secretaries General from Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dato’ Seri Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd. Nur, from Ministry of Education, Tan Sri Dr. Madinah Mohamad and from Ministry of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang.

The main objective of this event is to enhance the public’s awareness of the important mandates of UNESCO in education, sciences, culture and communication and information. The Hari UNESCO Malaysia, via its exhibition, also serves to highlight Malaysia’s past and present achievements in every aspect of UNESCO competencies. The event’s activities included art and cultural shows, exhibitions on science, technology, education, heritage and culture, UNESCO exhibition and, demonstration and interactivity of culture towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The Minister of Education cum President of Malaysia National Commission for UNESCO, Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid officiated the closing event.

ISTIC exhibited poster on activities, highlights of its programmes and video of IBSE Training Workshop.
