International Conference on Climate Change Education

The International Conference on Climate Change Education was successfully held on 7 and 8 May 2018 at Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The conference was aimed to discuss on how to achieve SDG No. 4, Quality Education, SDG No. 13, Climate Action and SDG No. 17, Partnership for the Goals. The international conference focused on integrating climate change education in the curriculum, best practices and resources for learning within the context of the UN SDG 13 “Climate Action” which recognises the importance of education in its target 13.3 and indicator 13.3.1. 

The two-day conference had the support of the UNESCO, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Ministry of Education (MOE), LAMAP Foundation, Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), French Embassy, Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO, Inter-Academy Partnership Science Education Programme (IAP-SEP), ECO Science Foundation and Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development. This conference was jointly officiated by Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Bin Hj. Yahaya, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation representing the Ministry’s Hon. Minister and Dr. Shahbaz Khan, the Regional Director of Science Bureau for Natural Science for Asia and the Pacific, representing H.E. Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNESCO. 

The conference was attended by 127 delegates comprised of policy makers, government officers, academia, lecturers from 20 countries - Algeria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Egypt, France, Gambia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Singapore, Senegal, Seychelles, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, Trinidad and Tobago, Zimbabwe and 10 international organisations. They were 63 males and 64 females.
